The documentation centre
Besides its collections which are unique in Europe, the Museum also possesses a large number of publications and documents on masking traditions from all over the world, ethnography, ethnology, folklore, museology, the history of old religions etc.
The documentation centre is an essential tool for accomplishing our mission to conduct scientific research. It allows us to study the objects of our collections, to prepare exhibitions and to write catalogues. It is open to the public and provides its services all year round to researchers, teachers, students and everyone passionately interested in festivals and masking practices.
Currently the library possesses about 5 000 books in various languages. The majority of them are in German, English and French.
Each year, the library’s collection is completed and increased by a large number of publications. They are purchases, donations or are received by exchanging documents with other scientific institutions. Historical newspapers, press cuttings and academic journals are also available.
The documentation centre also comprises a large image database with photographs, postcards and slides as well as numerous audiovisual documents (DVDs, CDs, films, records).
The documentation centre is open to the public on appointment from Monday to Friday.
